The Florida homestead exemption bills (HB 7105 and SB 1774) propose increasing the maximum homestead exemption from $50,000 to $75,000. This means a $200,000 assessed house would be taxed as if it were worth $125,000 or a 100,000 as though it were worth $25,000 for non-school taxes. Since the increased homestead involves a change to the Florida Constitution voters will have to approve the measure in November. However, it must first win the support from three-fifths of the House and Senate, 72 House members, and 24 Senators to reach the ballot.
